Raspberries.......

Who are those Farmers that sell us the products at the Gettysburg Farmers' Market?

                    Well in this new series we will meet the farmers you see and 

talk too every Saturday morning on the Square.

  This week we will be traveling over to

Swartz's Pumpkin Patch. 
Chris Swartz is our market Treasurer.  

It's raspberry season!!!!!! 

and everyone at the Swartz Family farm knows it........ 

You see Chris Swartz on the Market on Lincoln Square outside the Pub in Gettysburg.

Once raspberry season hits it seems sleep is something of a luxury. 

Everyone in the family and some friends  

helps get the raspberries to market. 

Here is some of the help returning to work 

after a short break. 

These mighty guys can 

work up to 8-9 hours straight 

during the raspberry season. 

Raspberries are not the only fresh produce at Swartz's Pumpkin Patch not by a long shot. Let's take a look at some of the other crops grown here in one of Adam County's most picturesque farms. Just take a look. You'll agree working conditions couldn't be more beautiful.

If you look really hard you can see the boys picking raspberries.

Layers in high tunnel

High Tunnel, or loop house is a green house like structure,  it's different in that it has no heat.  It helps to start and grow produce earlier.  For each layer on the tunnel is like moving south one growing season.

Corn 

 What can we do for our customers? A good question for any sales person to think about. Here at   Swartz's Pumpkin Patch because their customers are so important they have plantings spread out so produce such as corn can be picked at various times for a longer growing season. Customers get that fresh picked flavor of  sweet corn longer and more often.

 they start in with another.

You can visit  Swartz's Pumpkin Patch for your self and pick your own fresh produce. 

From mid-May to early July (strawberry and black raspberry season) we are open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 7:00am until 7:00pm
Saturdays 7am - 5pm

We are closed on Tuesdays & Sundays.

We are open by appointment for other products.

Visit us at the Gettysburg Farmers' Market on the Gettysburg town square,
Saturdays (7:00 Am - Noon), late April thru October.

Tuesdays 9am - 1pm.
